Concord Council: Goats, libraries, roads

It was a light agenda for Concord Township Council Tuesday night.

Council recognized residents Mary Alice Peeling and Randy Ehman for their time as members of the Rachel Kohl Library Board. They each have served three, three-year terms. Council members also recognized Girl Scout Troop 5607 for getting a Bronze Award for building a play area for goats, Goat-Topia at the former dog park on Bethel Road.

The recognition for the scouts reads in part: “…the members of Girl Scout Troop 5607 planned and built a goat playground; “Goat-Topia”, comprised of a swing, climbing structures, a seesaw, scratch areas, and a guest information board, which now offers a safe play area for the goats, but also gave the girls an opportunity to work on their engineering skills…”

Township engineer Nate Cline recommended to the council that work to construct a dedicated right-turn lane from Route 1 onto Schoolhouse Lane be awarded to Mor Construction Services. Mor was the low bidder at $196,810. Cline also said that the project is still waiting for a Highway Occupancy Permit from PennDOT, which could take another three to four weeks.

Concord Township received a Community Initiative Award from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for preserving the old Spring Valley AME Church.

The township bought the property, empty at the time, in 2014. Council President Dominic Pileggi said Council Co-Vice President John Gillespie was instrumental in getting the township to preserve the old church.

There will be a budget hearing at 7 p.m. on Nov. 14.
